Elijah's 2nd Birthday
Thursday last week was Elijah's birthday. A whopping 2-years-old! We got him 2 Elmo movies, mostly for my sanity (he loves Elmo and we previously only had 1 Elmo movie). Someone else, against my advice, got him a cute little toy that he loves. It's a "laptop," or a toy made to look like one that makes lots of noise. He loves it and so does Miciah who steals it every chance she can.
Saturday was the designated day for Elijah's birthday "party", which ended up being a stupid day for multiple reasons. If I had known it all would have flown like that, I would have just invited R & C on Thursday for cake and ice cream and been done with it. We had it on Saturday so Rob's parents could come down for it. I told them not to bother cause we'd be seeing them in 2 weeks and we weren't really even doing anything for his b-day, but whatever, they wanted to come. But Rob's mom is really sick and has been for two weeks and will be, she's been told by doctors, for at least another week. SO they didn't come down. Plus, the day ended up being long and full of too much to do, plus the day disappeared quickly so I ran out of time, and Elijah got sick. So there we were celebrating his birthday and he puked and so didn't eat any dinner or cake. That's no fun!
Week of Sickness
And this starts our week of sickness. Sunday afternoon I start feeling crummy. I sleep all day, just about. That night Miciah, Elijah, and I take turns throwing up and Rob is getting up every time to assist in clean up, etc. So we all slept in Monday until about 10 a.m. because we hadn't slept all night. Rob went to school and the kids and I sat/slept on the couch all day. We didn't even move except to throw up. It was very fun. Tuesday the kids took a turn for the better, but I was feeling even crummier, just with a bunch different symptoms. By the time Rob got home from school at 5:15 p.m. I was bawling like a baby (not an exaggeration) on the couch and completely unable to take care of my kids, while Elijah was running around trashing the house. Rob stayed home from Young Mens to take care of us all.
Wednesday C took the kids cause I wasn't about to repeat the day before. Miciah was better, but Elijah just vegged more. I was feeling a little better and Rob was just starting to really feel like he was coming down with it, getting the fever and all. We had our Home Teachers come and give us all blessings, mainly for Rob so he could go to school. And, I think pretty miraculously, his fever broke shortly after that and Thursday he was able to go to school. We took Miciah to pre-school for the first time all week and they sent her home early for being "droopy." She was asleep by the time we arrived home and slept for 5 hours. Then slept all night after being awake for only 3 hours. Amazing. But if we'd kept her home from pre-school, she'd have been so mad, so I'm glad we sent her. Elijah was feeling wonderful, other than a little cough and sore throat, and I was feeling better other than my tummy hurting a LOT.
Which brings us to today. We're all feeling so much better, except Elijah, who at least isn't as sick as at the beginning. This sickness has been very weird to me. Sick one day, better the next, to be sick the day after again. Plus, how many symptoms can one sickness hold? And why not give them all to us in one day instead of drag it out over a week?
It's a Boy!
I had a doctor's appointment today. We had our ultrasound and found out, much to Miciah's dismay, that we're having another little boy. She really wanted a little sister. But we told her we can't really change it, it's a little boy. The ultrasound tech actually wrote down the wrong gender, so when we told the doc it was a boy, he asked to see the picture, just to be sure. He took about a two second look at it and said, "Oh yeah. That's a penis." There you go. ... We have some names we're going on, but nothing 100% yet. But we've got time. ... And all else in the ultrasound looked good. They were going to do some blood work on me today, but I'm glad they didn't since I've been so sick. I've gained 3 pounds since last visit 6 weeks ago, but I've LOST 3 pounds just this week. Miciah got on the scale today and she has also lost 3 pounds. Elijah hasn't been on a scale, but I'd venture to say he's also lost quite a bit.
A Laptop and a Thank You!
Rob also was finally able to be the possessor of a laptop. A Latitude D610, if that means anything to anyone. Rob's uncle provided it for him along with a black and white laser printer (for some unknown reason. Maybe the printer came as a promotion?). We haven't been able to contact him yet to thank him (he's in England for 2 or 3 weeks on vacation with his family), but the thanks will be deep. Rob has been needing a way to easily work on his disertation and there isn't a specific computer for him at the lab. It will be nice for him to be able to do the work he needs to do when he needs to do it.
Celebrate Life
So today we celebrate many things like the male gender, modern technology, being able to eat and move from off the couch, and spring thunderstorms. It poured today and we have a little tin roof overhang on the front porch. We kept the door open just to hear it. It was lovely. And then afterwards a full rainbow appeared with the setting sun. It was lovely.
Hope you all have fared better than we have this week! Take care and stay healthy.
Tamra, Rob, Miciah, Elijah, and Baby Boy
P.S. I know there is some news out there (hint to B). Let's hear it!
