This is our Christmas letter for 2008. I was going to send it out to more people, but then didn't. Tis the season for slackerness. Enjoy!
Rob and Tamra
Thacker Family
In the Year 2008
I’ve never done a Christmas letter before, thinking that my blog and updates are plenty of information. It struck me this year, however, that some people probably don’t read my updates, or just don’t care to get THAT MUCH information. So here’s a snapshot of the Rob and Tamra Thacker Family in the year 2008. It’ll be an exercise on brevity for me.
Miciah (7) is in First Grade this year and thinks she pretty much knows everything, though I’m still skeptical. First Grade is fantastic for all because it means she’s at school all day and that allows me some sanity while I just take care of my two mellow boys (when Miciah comes home Elijah morphs into Spastic Kid) and we have quiet adventures and pleasant outings. It’s a little weird, and I’m still not used to it.
Elijah (4 ½) is a sensitive, sweet, overly-emotional boy with a temper. His accomplishments include trashing any room in the house in 5 seconds or less, and then turning around and making you smile because he wants to make you happy. He is also very gullible and believes there really is a Lie Bug growing in his body (he seems to think that’s cool, though, so I guess that backfired).
Teancom (2 ½) is a doll. This year he’s mastered walking, running, speaking clearly, and being amazingly and addictingly cute. I no longer shy away from the F word: Favorite.
Rob (30, turning 29 in Jan.) earned his PhD from the University of Cincinnati this year and then promptly turned around and decided he’d rather be a janitor. With the economy what it is, though, no janitorial spots were open, so he took a post doc at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and that’s job security for 2 years. Hopefully people will need janitors in 2010.Tamra (27 ½): I have been catching up on my reading lately since Miciah is in school all day. I have learned through this that the word ‘omnibus’ means a collection of several books, that Heinlein is a sci-fi genius and Herriot is an amazing storyteller, that it’s plausible that the boy DOES die at the end of The Giver, and that Wodehouse’s Jeeves series may be the most hilarious stuff ever written.
Merry Christmas!
