Details

Surgery tomorrow at 1.  Outpatient.  (Insurance rocks; this will only cost us $75.)

My other arm bone, the ulna, is broken, too.  More like chipped off at the end.  The doc probably won't even fix it.  It's not bad enough.

The radius gets screws and a plate that's meant to be permanent.

And my carpel tunnel tendon will be snipped.  My fingers are still tingly.  I thought that was normal.  Apparently not.  There are potentially huge problems if the carpal tunnel has complications, so they'll just avoid all that by removing the tendon.  He says I will lose 10% total grip strength, but "it's not enough to notice."  Hard to imagine not noticing 10% reduction in grip strength.

My arm will be in a much smaller, removable splint.  I am SO EXCITED about that.  He didn't give me a timeline for how long I'll have to wear it.

And I go to rehab on Monday, and will be able to be on a plane to CA on Tuesday.  Hopefully they'll give me exercises to do in CA.

All good news.

grip strength? What does that really refer to? The ease that you can open the pickle jar?

He said I would only notice if I did a Grip Strength Test. Like a bar that you squeeze as hard as you can. ???

I'm hoping I don't miss it.
