Rob is amazing. My respect for him grows the longer we're married. He's so many things that are likable and admirable and copy-worthy. I don't know how he does it all.
Lately I've been so impressed with his father skills. The kids ADORE him. I'm pretty sure he's their favorite parent, which is fine by me (less pressure). Here's what Rob's been doing lately with the kids:
- Taking them to swim lessons and getting in the pool with them.
- Building snowmen. One of which was taller than him.
- Playing The Balloon Game in our living room. It's where you have to hit the balloon back and forth, and if you don't hit it before it touches the ground, you're out.
- Watching Harry Potter movies and then Once Upon a Time with them. Over many weeks.
- Helping them in the morning with lunches and breakfast.
- Making Pinewood Derby cars with them, and actually letting them do it.
- etc.
Rob is awesome.
I often will tell Rob thank you for what he does with the kids. It's not that I'm an uninvolved parent, I just don't do half of what Rob does. For instance, I helped build the tall snowman, but my contribution was about 5 minutes worth - helping lift the heavy 2nd ball because they couldn't have done it without my help, and I couldn't watch them fail after all that hard work. The rest of the time I stayed inside and provided carrots and scarves as needed and then hot chocolate for the family afterwards.
When I told Rob thank you for playing in the snow with the kids, he said, "You think this is all for them? No way. It's fun for me!"
Love that Rob.
For Valentine's Day Elijah made Rob and I a special heart. On one side it had Mom's characteristics. On the other, Dad's characteristics. The same 4 choices were listed on each side:
- Funny
- Strict
- Likes to Laugh
- Reads a Lot
Rob is Funny and Reads a lot.
I am Strict, I like to laugh, and I read a lot.
That cracked me up. I'm not funny, but I laugh. Rob's not strict, and he doesn't laugh, but he's funny.
Sounds like we're a good combo.
