A genius parenting moment

Elijah came in to me and said he needed a bandaid. Right. Why did Elijah need a bandaid? Who knows. He said his finger hurt, but I glanced at his finger, told him it wasn't bleeding, so he didn't need a bandaid. He responded by throwing himself on the ground throwing a HUGE fit. I was unmoved.

Finally, after maybe 5 minutes of this, I re-looked at his finger. What an amazing mom I felt like when I discovered a sliver in his finger! It was maybe 1/4 inch long, and was sticking straight down into his finger under his fingernail! You KNOW that has to hurt.

I promised him a bandaid if he let me pull it out. It easily came out and then the fit stopped. I held him for a few minutes, apologizing continually, "I'm SO sorry, my man. I'm SO sorry, buddy. I'm sorry. ..." He let me hold him and whimpered a little while he calmed down. Teancom walked up behind me and Elijah said, "Teancom, your magic didn't work!" Then he said to me, "Teancom thinks he's magic, but he's not."

Teancom is 2 years old. I want to know how Elijah interpreted Teancom's claim to be a magician.

We put a bandaid on Elijah's finger and that was the end of it, life was better. Give me the prize for Genius Parenting Moment!
