Christmas Day, revisited

My dad has just chastized me about my last post. And he's right, I left out some crucial facts and gifts.

Fact: My dad was just as involved in helping us out financially, and in buying those gifts, as my mom was. In fact, he went with my mom to buy the pots and pans. Actually, while she was picking out those, Dad was picking out a wicked cool new electric razor for Rob. It's super neat and very hi-tech. You can run water through it! Without ruining it!! How is that even possible, I want to know.

Gift: My dad always buys us a book for Christmas. We pick it out and he buys it. Well, the book I picked out was A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. It's fantastic and I loved it. Problem is, I wanted the Special Illustrated edition, which is the one I read (from the library). Come to find out it's out of print. I knew this because a month or two before he asked, I had looked up the book and saw it for no cheaper than $60. So I told him that's all I wanted, and Rob was in on it, too, since $60 is expensive and since Rob couldn't think of a book anyway. ... Well, by the time my dad looked, he could only find it for $150. He told me this and I told him to just buy the normal (IN print) edition, because $150 is too much. I told him to pick out whatever non-fiction book he wanted and to send that instead. Well, he bought me the Special Illustrated edition of A Short History of Nearly Everything! Rob is now reading it and loving it, and I'm a lucky daughter.
