Literacy on a Van

For two days I've been meaning to write an update. Eventually I will get there, but for right now I am Wiped Out, and all you get is this one fun kid story:

We went on a trip this last weekend and on Monday, after we returned, I noticed how dirty our van got. You know, all white with winter muck. Oh well. Who really cares.

Well, Rob was walking out the door this morning when he stopped, turned back around with a smile on his face and said, "Miciah has written the entire alphabet on the van. Should I take a picture?" Should you take a picture? OF COURSE!

It occurred to me that this is a fun kid twist on the classic "Wash Me" written on the side of a dirty car. Our van is now a travelling advertisement for literacy. But it's got the White Trash element of the dirty car. Which adds to the power of the message, I think. You know? It says, "Hey, if we're White Trash and we can read, then ANY ONE can read."

Miciah signed the back of the van with her full name: Miciah Lynn Thacker.

"This message has been endorsed by Miciah Lynn Thacker, White Trash Literacy Advocate."
