Fountain Paint Pots
July 9, still. At Midway Geyser Basin we lost half of our party when the baby threw up all over herself and car seat. So she went home with her mom and dad and the rest of us walked around Midway. Then another group splintered off and headed for camp. Rob and I and Budge and Jana (and crew, including kids and several other adults) headed for the Fountain Paint Pots. More mud pot features (my favorite!).
It wasn't spectacular, but it was neat! More ploppy than the first mud pots we saw. The best ones were on July 10th, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
This tree, like many throughout the park, had been captured by the build-up from the features over many, many years.
Check out the color on these rocks. It looked like blood!!
Highlight: Teancom said, "Look, moose shadow!" And there was the shadow of himself in the moose hat. And that's cute enough to take a picture of.
At the paint pots Xander, my nephew, declared, "This is cool! Cool, and a little boring." An echo of Miciah's statement the day before when I asked her if she liked Yellowstone. She said, "Yeah, I like it. Only, it's a little boring. All there is to do is walk." And Teancom's response to Rob asking him if the paint pots were cool: "Yeah. And stinky." Totally true.
On the way home we passed a herd of bison, babies and all, hanging out along the river, right by our car. It wasn't the first time we'd passed a herd of bison, but it was still cool, and it created a 30 minute delay. At first we thought it might be a bear, since we saw 2 creatures walking in the meadow. Turns out those creatures were humans.
A picture of the herd we saw a few days before, also right beside our car. Check out the baby eating!
We got back into camp really late that day, about 8 p.m. But dinners were always well orchestrated, and that night was no exception. We had tacos and it was lovely.
