(a FFF post)
We live in a school district that starts school later in the year than most. Miciah, in 2nd grade, started just this last Monday, Aug. 31st. And Elijah, entering Kindergarten, starts today.
So how do you know it's time for school to start?
1. The oppressive August heat makes you yearn for Fall. (This August hasn't been too bad, though.)
2. You've been chillin' in your house all summer, and you're ready for a change in routine--namely, you're ready to read a book while your kids go off to school. (We were on vacation all summer, though, so I thought the week before school would be cake. Not so much.)
3. Your kids are so snippy at each other that you feel like you're constantly pulling their claws out of each other's eyeballs.
4. Everyone ELSE is starting. Say goodbye to play dates (and, hence, other children to keep your own kids from clawing each other's eyeballs out).
5. Your kids start "playing" in ways that are annoying to you (does Miciah HAVE to make a "house" out of couch cushions and blankets in EVERY room EVERY day? Yes, apparently she does), or just plain unacceptable.
What's up with THAT? My kids are clear about how I feel about my garden. My garden is my baby. The kids all understand that there are dire consequences when you mess with my flowers. And yet my sweet 5-year-old decides to "make a path" through my Black-eyed Susans?
Clearly it's time for school to start.
