Mother's Day

I'll lay off the Mother's Day commentary, other than saying that I love my mother (she's still my mommy), and that I love my children--being their mother is a wonder and a joy.

Mother's Day Program at School

On Friday there was a Mother's Day program for all the 1st graders at Miciah's school. The kids sang a few songs, including a cute song called "No Doubt About it" that goes like this:

I love you, no doubt about it.
I love you, no doubt about it.
I love you, no doubt about it,
You're the best there is.

You love me, no doubt about it.
You love me, no doubt about it.
You love me, no doubt about it,
I'm the best there is.

Then the teachers read aloud a book titled Love You Forever. If you've never read it, then know that if you're a mother you will bawl like a baby when you read it. It's brutal. But the message is a sweet one (hence why I bought the book, even though I can only read it every so often, cause I cry EVERY TIME). Anyways, they had the kids all sing the song part that goes "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always. As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be." Cute, mushy stuff that only a mother can enjoy, I'm sure.

The kids all made a book for their moms. It was cute. It included fill-in-the-blanks like "I love my mother because...", stuff like that. The front of Miciah's book was supposed to have 2 handprints on it, but she was in a cast, so it has 1 handprint and 1 footprint:Some of the highlights from the book:

"I love the way you hug me because ... it makes me vary, vary, vary, vary, vary happy."

"I love the way you cook ... brownes, cake, cookes and pizza (with the z's backwards)

because ... thay taste vary, vary, vary, vary good goodie good good!"

"I love your eyes because ... thay are my favorut coler. I love your eyes because thay are blue and thay twingkle like the stars in the night."

The last page was a "Mommy Fact Sheet"

on which (if you don't want to read the whole thing) I was informed that:

- I am "6 feet or 5 feet" tall.

- I weigh "adout 60, 65, or 70", and

- My favorite hobby is to "play at the Beach".

Miciah also said that her favorite thing to do with me is to stay up late and watch TV while eating popcorn. That made me want to stay up late with her every night. ... For all the challenges that Miciah brings to me (her and I are like fire and fire), I love her a lot and she's a joy.

A side note about Miciah's program: no less than 3 kids brought their mothers over to see Miciah's arm. I thought that was cute.

Mother's Day Dinner

Last night, around 5:30, when I realized that Mother's Day meant I could force Rob to make anything I wanted him to make, I asked Rob for a special favor for Mother's Day dinner: I wanted Colter, my friend, to make dinner for me. Upon hearing that, Rob's shoulders fell ever so slightly and he said a very disappointed, "Oh." And then, quickly, "I can make you whatever you want!" WHATEVER I want? "WHATEVER you want." Good. I want Colter to make me dinner.

I'm pretty sure I hurt the only ounce of pride that Rob has. That's not an insult to Rob, in fact it's the ultimate compliment, because he simply has no ego.

Anyways, I proded him into calling Colter and offering to make everything else if Colter made the main dish. To me, this makes total sense. 2 men making dinner for their wives, while we have a good time chatting with friends. We both spend the same amount on a yummy, yummy dinner. Everyone wins!

We're leaving for dinner in a matter of minutes. Rob is a wonderful, prideless man, and I'll have to make it up to him. I didn't even think, before I opened my mouth, that he would find it offensive. I so rarely have to worry about hurting his pride!

A Picture is Worth...

To end this Mother's Day post, I'm pretty sure that this picture says it all:
