What do you think?
(I still can't get them to sit quite straight on my face. I'll have to work on that.)
I decided that I needed to go get my blood work done, since I'm now 30 and that's starting to be old. My numbers ended up being perfect, which is great but not surprising (the doctor actually looked at me like I was crazy when I told him I wanted my numbers done. "You weigh 108 lbs. You're in the risk category for nothing," he told me).
I was surprised, though, that the American Medical Association suggests that I get an eye exam once a year. It was my turn to look at the doctor like he was crazy. "Seriously? My eyes are perfect. I haven't had an eye exam since High School." He told me that I didn't have to, I was a free agent; he was just telling me what was recommended. (I love my doctor, by the way.)
Since Rob was going in for an eye exam, and I was going with anyway to help him pick out glasses, I thought, "Oh, what the heck." For a $20 copay, why not. I've known for years that my right eye isn't as strong as my left (but I can still see better than 20/20 with both eyes open), so I wasn't shocked when the doctor said that my right eye has a slight prescription. I was surprised, however, that my right eye has an astigmatism. When the doctor showed me how my right eye would see with glasses, I was fascinated at how blurry it looked to that eye without glasses.
Still, that doesn't mean that I Need glasses. I started asking around. "I see you wear glasses. Are your eyes bad?" If they said their eyes weren't very bad, I asked if they liked their glasses. Usually the response included something about how the glasses made it easier to see when they were driving / watching a movie. But nothing's blurry for me ever.
Except I started noticing that particularly at the computer, that wasn't true. Just the slightest low-light and I'm sitting closer, turning on all the lights, and rubbing my right eye.
So for a few dollars, I'm giving these a try. So far, driving is a bother with them on, and wearing them around the house is a toss-up, making things neither better nor worse. But wearing them at the computer is Magic.
The family's reaction:
Rob says they make me look studious. I haven't decided if I think that's a good thing or a bad thing.
Teancom saw me for the first time and said, "Take those glasses off. I don't think you look good in them."
Elijah's reaction? Nothing. He's either less-observant than your normal kid, or he cares less, or some combination thereof.
And Miciah said, "WOAH!" Then she said that she likes them alright, but it's like when someone dyes their hair green: you gotta get used to it. I'll take it.

I like them. And I'm 90% sure I need glasses now. My eyes stop working at night--can't read the computer well, signs outside, Christian's iphone... But considering I'm WAY behind on doctors appointments for my babies, I have a feeling an eye appointment for myself isn't anytime in my near future.
I think they're very cute! I've known for years I've needed glasses...my left eye is pretty weak when I close my right. It's just a matter of going in and actually having an eye exam done. I don't know why it's so hard. I'm like you, I don't feel like I see blurry, so it's not a priority. But the last time I had them checked my vision was 20/30 and that was about six years ago...
The best part about you wearing glasses is that they won't match a single thing you wear... which is exactly how you would want it. Love. that.
The frames are a basic black, and the sides are reddish-brown. I had little shape sizes to choose from, since it was the junior section. But I decided that, heck, if I'm going to wear glasses, they should make a statement, right? I was going for preppy punk with a hint of sophistication.
And the glasses help a lot. The more I wear them and compare, the more I notice that things aren't as clear as I imagined without them. My eyes seem happier wearing glasses.
