Elijah is 6 years old today. Crazy weird, right? I went and bought him new shoes, not as a gift, but because he needed them, and he's moved up 2 shoe sizes. Serious? He's literally growing up, and out, and all over.
But I love it; kids were made to grow up. I'm enjoying every moment (well, maybe not EVERY moment) while they're little, but they weren't meant to stay little.
In honor of the little guy, here's a recent gem of a conversation.
On a random Saturday morning Elijah walked up to me and said, "Mom, where do you store your energy?"
I thought about that for a minute, wondering if he wanted a scientific answer, and then wondering if I knew that scientific answer, and then deciding that he probably wasn't asking for that at all. Either way, I thought it best to clarify before I ventured into precarious technical science land, and so I said, "Where do YOU store your energy?"
Without skipping a beat, he gave a little shrug as he said, "In my toes." I laughed. Oh.
Then Miciah said, "I store mine in my brain."
And then Teancom said, "I store mine in my stomach."
Fascinating.
And then Elijah added, "You know why I store it in my toes? ... So I can run FAST!"
That's a WAY better answer than any science mumbo jumbo I could have come up with.
Elijah and Tank, posing with an almost dead balloon (actually, that's why I had the camera out. Elijah insisted I take a picture of the balloon because it was "so cute"):
