Miciah has Strep Throat. And an ear infection on top of that, just for fun.
She's been out of school since Tuesday, and we were going to delay one more day before taking her into the doctor, cause we try to be non-alarmists. But, after hearing that Strep is going around, we decided to have her checked out yesterday. (Glad we did. This makes us good parents.) Sure enough, she's got Strep. The ear infection is just icing after that.
Oh, she's doing MUCH better today. She doesn't look like death warmed over any more, and that's hopeful. Still tired, obviously, but able to read and stuff.
Yesterday she asked me, "Why do diseases even EXIST?!" I had a tough time answering that one. The age old "why does evil/pain/sickness exist?" question. I said something non-original but non-complicated, about there needing to be opposites so we can appreciate the good. Then I noted that, opposites or not, being sick sucks. :) Cause I'm that kind of philosopher.

you should have explained that just like every organism germs need to reproduce. It's unfortunate for us that they use us to reproduce which, in turn, makes us sick.
